Divine Mercy @ Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore
The Feast of Divine Mercy was celebrated with devotion and gusto at Infant Jesus Shrine Mangalore on 15th April, 2012. The festal Eucharistic celebration which was held at 5 pm was preceded by an hour long Eucharistic Adoration and recitation of Divine Mercy Rosary. The Solemn Inauguration of the New School Building – Hoovina Hadagali
The solemn inauguration of Mount Carmel School, Hoovina Hadagali, Bellary District, was held on 13th April 2012 at 5-30pm in the presence of his Excellency Most Rev. Dr. Henry D’ Souza, Bishop of Bellary, who blessed the new building. The new ediface was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, Provincial Superior of the Karnataka Goa Province and the President of Carmel Jnana Trust. The main entrance leading to the school was inaugurated by Mr. Nandihalli Halappa, Ex MLA Hoovina Hadagali and the flag mast was inaugurated by Mrs. U. Easter Fellowship at Maria Della Scala
Just as the disciples of Jesus who were scattered after the death of our Lord were united after the resurrection of our Lord so too Tuesday of the Easter Octave was a special occasion for 16 of the Carmelites of our Province spread over different parts of Italy to express their fraternity at the Maria Della Scala, Rome. The solemn Holy Eucharist presided over by Fr. Lawrence D’Mello marked the beginning of the celebrations. Fr. HOLY WEEK AND EASTER CELEBRATIONS AT GUARDIAN ANGELS CHURCH
Guardian Angels Church celebrated the Holy Week ceremonies with great enthusiasm. People gathered to participate in great numbers. On this occasion the Church was illuminated with new lights and decorated appropriately with a New Chapel of Adoration for Holy Thursday and the Image of the Resurrected Jesus with two Angels was mounted infront of the mural of the Church. The highlight of this years Easter was the blessing of the New Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes in the Church Campus facing Broughton Street. FIRST CONGRESS – WESTERN CANADA OCDS And SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATION OF FR. RUDOLF D’SOUZA OCD
On March 24, 2012 St. Edmunds’s Church, North Vancouver, B.C. was filled with excitement and anticipation. History was about to be created! The First Congress of Western Canada OCDS was to take place on this auspicious day. It was an occasion also to congratulate Fr. Rudolf D’Souza OCD, Pastor of Guardian Angels Parish, on his Silver Jubilee which was celebrated with a grand function in India on February 24, the day of his ordination. Participating in the event were OCDS Community members of Western Canada with family, parishioners and guests who attended to learn more about the Discalced Carmelite Secular Order.   Click here for more

21st of March 2012 was a great day for the small Tapovana community that has been silently forming our novices into future Carmelites, as it spread out its wings to nurture another ministry for the people of the vicinity. Golden Years in the Garden of Carmel
The Golden Jubilee of the Religious Profession of Rev. Dr. Gregory D'Souza OCD was celebrated at Infant Jesus Shrine on 19th March, 2012. The celebration began with the Eucharistic celebration during which Fr. Nelson Pinto broke the Word of God throwing light on St. Joseph. Later a short yet meaningful felicitation program was held at the Monastery grounds with a prayer song sung in Spanish, a momentous toast raised by Fr. Patrick Lobo, a wishing song by the Brothers as well by the Secular Carmelites. Click here for more

RIP
We are sorry to let you know that Rev. Fr. Camilo Maccise, the previous Superior General (1991-2003) of our Order, breathed his last on the 16th March, Friday at 00-23, Mexican Time. He was suffering from cancer. The funeral mass will be celebrated on 16th March, Friday at 13-00 and on 17th March, Saturday at 16-00 at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Carmen "Sabatina" (in the city of Mexico). After the cremation of his body the ashes will be deposited in the Church of Our Lady of Carmel at Toluca, his birth place. Let us pray that the Lord who had called him to the Order of Carmel, may grant him eternal rest in His Heavenly Abode. Click here for more

CMI GENERAL VISITS SADBHAVANA
On the 2nd of March 2012, Rev. Fr. Jose Panthaplamthottiyil paid a short visit to our Provincial House, Sadbhavana, Bangalore. He is the Coordinator General of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) for USA and Canada. He was accompanied by Fr. Sebastian Payapally, who is the professor of Canon Law and the director of P.G. Block students at Dharmaram, Bangalore. Fr. Provincial welcomed both the distinguished guests and introduced the community members to them. Thereafter they joined us for the noon lunch. A New Master to K.G. Province
The Karnataka Goa Province for the past many years has produced good number of Doctors and Masters. In this regard we have a reason to rejoice and celebrate because one more member has joined this particular group in the person Fr. Joachim Rodrigues who was pursuing his Masters degree in Spiritual Theology at the Indian Institute of Spirituality, Bangalore. After having burnt the midnight oil for the past two years, on the 1st of March 2012, he defended his thesis on the theme “Wholeness of Human Life: A Study of Interior Castle” based on the writings of St. Teresa of Avila with distinction. Eye Camp at Holy Family Church, Gorva, Vadodara
“He has sent me to recover sight to the blind”
For the first time in the history of the Holy Family Church, a free eye camp was organized and it was a great success. On the 25th and 26th of February 2012 all the roads were leading towards the Holy Family Church, Gorva. Dr. Lawrence and Mayo Optical willingly accepted the invitation of the Carmelite Fathers to organize two days eye camp in the vicinity of the Church. All the people irrespective of caste, creed and religion flocked to the place and benefited from the camp.  Click here for more

New Book (Tacha Metani) RELEASED
‘Tacha Metani’ (In HIS Footsteps) was released on 24th Feb, 2012 at Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore. ‘Tacha Metani’ is a collection of reflections on the Way of Cross which is dear devotion to all the Christians during the Lenten Season.

The book is a collective effort of the Carmelites and contains four sets of reflections penned by Fr. Deepak Tauro OCD, Jo. Ci. Siddakatte (Br. Joseph Cyril D’Souza OCD), Br. ‘Seminary Day ’12' Held at The Carmelite Seminary, Mapusa
The Carmelite Seminary, Mapusa organized ‘Seminary Day,12’ in their premises. Rev. Fr. Joaquim Loiola Pereira, Secretary, Archbishop Patriarch of Goa and Daman was the Chief guest of the day. Fr. Pereira speaking on the occasion appreciated the budding Carmelites for their performance. “ Carmelite Spirituality deepens the Christian spirituality” he said further and appealed the gathering to deepen their friendship with Jesus. Rev. Fr. Rudolf V. D' Souza turns Silver
The Silver Jubilee celebrations of Fr. Rudolf V. D'Souza OCD at Sacred Heart Church Madanthyar were attended by 34 priests mainly from Karnataka Goa province of the Carmelites. It was a grand celebration attended by more than 1300 people gathered at the Church grounds. The celebration began with the Holy Eucharistic celebration preceded by the traditional band from Ujire Parish. Rev. Fr. Pius James preached a homily that stressed the importance of priesthood as participation in the life of Christ that was sacrificed for others. Click here for more

Ash Wednesday at Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. It is a season of penance, reflection, and fasting which prepares us for Christ's Resurrection on Easter Sunday, through which we attain redemption. Following the example of the Ninevites, who did penance in sackcloth and ashes, our foreheads are marked with ashes to humble our hearts and reminds us that life passes away on Earth. Fr. Jerome Mascarenhas celebrates his 40th Birthday!
The OCDS members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Study Group, North Vancouver, British Columbia had a reason to celebrate and rejoice! Fr. Jerome Mascarenhas, their Spiritual Assistant, and Assistant Pastor of St. Edmund’s, reached his 40th Birthday on February 13, 2012. Much loved and appreciated by his parishioners and the North Vancouver OCDS members, this event was marked by two birthday celebrations. On Monday, February 13, 2012, around 100 parishioners and friends participated in a solemn Mass of Thanksgiving. Fr. Jerald D’Souza, Pastor at St. Edmund’s Parish, expressed his best wishes and thanked Fr. Jerome for his service to the parish. “We complement each other.! He fulfills what is lacking in me!” said Fr. The Magnificat, 3 Hour Long Praise and worship was held at Infant Jesus Shrine on 19th Feb from 5 to 8pm for which faithful irrespective of their age gathered in large number. Fr. Michael Payyapilly VC from Potta celebrated the Eucharist and Broke the Word of God. Addressing the devotees he said, "Turn every situation, however worst is it, into a prayer." He quoted the examples from the Scripture where Jesus looking at Jerusalem’s pathetic situation turned to prayer. The OCD Congress for Africa
The OCD Congress for Africa was held at Nairobi from 6-10 February 2012. This congress was attended by Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, the Provincial, Fr. Marlon Rodrigues, the Vicar of Tanzania and Fr. Vivian Menezes, the Councillor of the Vicariate. Fr. General inaugurated the Congress on 6th Morning which was followed by input sessions and group discussions. There were altogether two conferences of Carmelite missionaries working in Africa, namely the Anglofon and the Francofon. Click here for more

Emmaus’ Seminar stressed on the need of treating a student in a individual manner
“Every child is unique and there is a need to treat a student in a individual manner.” Said Dr. Peter Castelino, Mapusa based Psychiatrist and a counselor. Dr. Castelino was delivering a key note address for the one day seminar for the teachers organized by EMMAUS, a counselling centre of the Carmelite Fathers at Feira Alta,Mapusa. Most of us look at the other with our own frame of mind and our own expectation which is abstacle to identify the problems of children. We need to develop a strategy and know the strategy that we have developed in handling our students.” He said further. He appealed to the teachers participants to be good indentifiers , good counselors and be empathetic to sort out problems in students. Click here for more

Carmelite Brother Joseph Cyril D'Souza popularly known as Jo Cy Siddakatte has been chosen for Kittall Yuva Puroskaar 2012. This Puroskar is awarded to young, promising Konkani writers by Mangalore-based Kittall Konkani Website, edited and published by H M Pernal.

Says H M, "This is a not just another award. It is a recognition and token of appreciation of the winner's contribution to Konkani. Almost all say in their speeches that youngsters should be encouraged. But seldom we recognize and focus on them." Click here for more

Infant Jesus feast at Sadbhavana, Bangalore
The solemn feast of the Infant Jesus was celebrated at Sadbhavana, Bangalore on the 26th of January 2012 at 5-30pm with great devotion. Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, the Provincial Superior presided over the festal celebration along with thirteen other Carmelite priests from Bangalore region. Fr. Provincial in his homily on the theme: “Glowing with faith, lamps of Christ” spoke about the different phases of faith and how an individual in his or her life can strengthen the faith through the grace of Jesus. He said, through our devotion to Infant Jesus one can grow in Christian faith. Our faith should not be a shallow instead it should be fresh and an inspiration to others to come closer to Christ. Solemn Profession of Sr. Mary Agnes at Kankanaday, Mangalore Carmel
The solemn profession of Sr Mary Agnes of the Eucharist (Elizebeth Queenie Andrade) was witnessed by many people at the Sacred Heart monastery, Cloistered Carmel, Kankanady here on 21st Jan, 2012. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Bishop of Mangalore, Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, together with the Carmelite Provincial. The annual feast of Infant Jesus was celebrated at Koteshwar - Kundapur here on Thursday January 19 with great devotion and zeal. Rev. Fr. Maxim Noronha, the Financial Administrator of the Diocese of Mangalore presided over the solemn festal Eucharistic Celebration at 5 pm along with 30 priests. Fr. The Annual Feast of Infant Jesus was celebrated on January 14th, 2012 with great solemnity and fervor at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, Mangalroe. The Solemn Eucharistic Celebration was at 6 pm presided over by Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore. 44 priests concelebrated along with him. INFANT JESUS DEVOTION AT CARMEL HILL - PRESS NOTE
As we are celebrating the Novenas leading to the great Feast of Infant Jesus, here is a look into the development of this sacred devotion. In Mangalore, the devotion to Infant Jesus began about 150 years ago, but took definite shape about 60 years back. In the year 1947 the Discalced Carmelites (OCD Fathers) decided on founding a house of monastic observance in Mangalore. After exploring the city they found today’s popular Carmel Hill. A chapel was built there and they started the Novena prayer to Infant Jesus. Click here for more

Blood Donation Camp at Infant Jesus Shrine
In view of the Annual Feast of Infant Jesus (to be celebrated on Jan 14), Carmelites at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, organized a Blood Donation Camp on Jan. 12th, 2012 in collaboration with Fr. Muller’s Charitable Institutions. The camp commenced at 9 am and closed at 1 pm. The response of the people was unexpectedly good. There were many in waiting in line to donate blood from the morning itself. By noon, more 100 people came forward to donate blood and about 80 units of blood were already collected. We thank the Lord for the generosity of these people by which so many lives can be saved. A word of thanks to the medical staff too, for their untiring commitment. FEAST OF INFANT JESUS AT PUSHPASHRAMA
The annual feast of the Infant Jesus was held on a grand scale at Pushpashrama on Sunday 8th January 2012. The festive mass was celebrated in different languages, like – Malayalam 7a.m, English 8a.m, Konkani 9a.m, Tamil 10a.m, and Kannada mass especially for the sick and their healing at 11.30a.m. Around 15,000 devotees visited the shrine during the novenas and on the feast day. “Family that Prays together shares and stays together”
This is what we experienced in our tiny parish on the Feast of our Patron. January 8, 2012 is a remarkable day in the history of our church. The feast of Holy Family though it was scheduled on 30th December 2011, we the parishioners celebrated it on 8th of January 2012. The Solemn mass with melodious Choir, the entrance dance, penitential rite with an enactment and the offertory procession with various gifts was the highlights of the festal celebration.  Click here for more

THE LAST JOURNEY OF FR. FULGENCIO FERNANDES, OCD
As the world celebrated the birth of the Divine Savior, Fr. Fulgencio Fernandes silently and peacefully moved on to his Heavenly Abode. The aspirants from our Carmelite Seminary in Mapusa, who considered him their ‘grandpa’ has just recited the rosary in his cell (as they had been doing for a couple of weeks) after which he slept in the Lord at around 8.30 p.m. The community celebrated a requiem mass in the Monastery Chapel before shifting his mortal remains to the morgue in Goa Medical College, Bambolim. The friars from most of the communities within the Province, the aspirants from Mapusa and a few lay people gathered at the entrance of the Carmelite Church in Margao on 27th December, 2011 at 2.30 p.m. to receive body of Fr. Fulgencio. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, lead the rosary which was followed by the Divine Office for the dead. The prayers concluded with the singing of ‘Libera me’ in Latin.

What better occasion can we have than Christmas to manifest our brotherhood as God through the Incarnation of his only Begotten Son established a renewed fellowship with the humanity. On December 27, on the occasion of the Feast of John the Evangelist, popularly known as the Disciple of Love, when our Province represented at Margao to bid final adieu to late Fr. Late Fr. Fulgence Fernandes of Jesus ocd
A Marching Friar that finally stopped!
Fr. Fulgence Fernandes of Jesus ocd, the senior-most friar in our Province has walked over into the eternity. This ‘irresistible walker’ of Carmel has hanged his shoes definitively on 25th of December 2011 at 8.30 pm. He joyfully walked 96 years of his life and we expected him to complete a century in 2017. But he gracefully surrendered his life to his maker on the very day his peripatetic teacher Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem. Click here for more

Death Notice :
We are sorry to let you know that Rev. Fr. Fulgence Fernandes OCD, Aged 95, conventual at Avila Jyothi, Carmelite Seminary, Mapusa, Goa breathed his last on 25th December 2011 at 8-30pm. For the past one year he was critically ill and had strokes on both the sides which made him paralysed.

Fr. Fulgence hails from Benaulim, Goa. He joined the Order of Carmel in 1953 and made his first profession in Podanur on 17th May 1955 and made Solemn Profession in Manjumel, Kerala on 17th May 1958. He pursued his Philosophical and Theological Studies at the Seminary of Rachol, Goa after which he was ordained on 26th october 1944 as a secular priest. Later he joined the Carmelite Order in 1953.

After having joined the order, he served the communities of Podanur, Manjumel, Kuwait, Margao and Mapusa. He is known for his simplicity and dedicated service in the garden of Carmel. May the Lord who had called him to the Order of Carmel grant him eternal rest in His Heavnly Abode.

The funeral is sheduled to take place on 27th December 2011 at 4pm, Carmelite Monastery, Margao, Goa.

2011 CHRISTMAS AT VANCOUVER CREATED A HISTORY IN THE K.G. PROVINCE
Guardian Angels at Vancouver was buzzing with activities during this Christmas. This year’s Christmas was marked by lights, stars, and an open air crib that is displayed on the roof of the Rectory. Fr. Rudolf, the parish priest along with Fr. Boniface, made the celebration quite memorable one.

2011 Christmas celebration has created a history in the Karnataka Goa Province with the inauguration of the new Canadian Carmelites' website: http://www.cccocd.org  The K.G. Province rejoices along with the Canadian Friars for having created a new website in the region of Canada. The website is making its debut in the Canadian social setting uniting all the Carmelites lay as well as religious in the whole of Canada. Fr. Rudolf in his homily insisted that we cannot celebrate Christmas without making someone in our life happy, and that happiness could be anything like caring, guiding, inspiring, and being generous towards the poor and the needy. The Church in this connection is serving food to 300 people on Christmas day to homeless and poor in the locality.

Congrats to Fr. Rudolf V. D’ Souza and all the Carmelite friars who are serving in Canada for your new venture and the initiative in reaching out the people of God.

The Secular Carmel Community of Carmel Gudo celebrated the Christmas with fun and gay on 16th Dec, 2011. Members who are talented in various fields exhibited them in putting up a Christmas play "Balkak Kone Velo?", (written by Sr. Judy Pinto OCDS), singing Carols etc. Sr. Judy gave a Christmas message. Vestition and First Religious Profession at Tapovana, Kushalnagar
Our novitiate at Tapovana, Kushalnagar, was in the limelight for the past two days for a very special occasion in the life of the Province. On December 13th evening, 3 postulants: Bros. Melbert Audry D’ Souza, Vishan Vinu Monis and Ashwath D’ Souza entered the canonical novitiate at a simple but touching function in the choir. Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, the Provincial, entrusted them to the care of the Novice-Master by quoting a letter of Abraham Lincoln that he had written to the teacher of his young son. Each one of them was given a Scapular and Emblem of the Order. There was rejoicing in the refectory thereafter welcoming these young brothers to the cradle of the Province! Click here for more

Carmel Gudo celebrated the Seminary Day on 10th Dec. 2011. The whole community of Carmel Hill put their hands together to organize the Carmel Day 2011 on Dec. 10th. The programme began at 5.30 and reached its climatic end at 8.20 pm. The crowd of more than 1000 people actively participated right through and was very supportive and encouraging. Asha Deepa from SILVER to GOLDEN
On 6th of December, 2011, the Asha Deepa community, Madanthyar, celebrated the Silver Jubilee of its foundation as a formation house and on this occasion it organized a felicitation programme, cultural programme by the Brothers followed by a fellowship meal. Report of Symposium on the music and literature of Wilfy Rebimbus
On the 4th of December, 2011, the Naman Ballok Jesu, Konaknai Monthly publishd by Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore celebrated its 3rd anniversary. And on this occasion, a symposium was organized on the songs and literature of Konkan Kogul, Late Mr. Wilfy Rebimbus, as a tribute to him. Konkan Maina Mrs. Meena Rebimbus, wife of Late Mr. Wilfy was the chief guest while Rev. Dr. Archibald Gonsalves, Provincial, presided over the function. The programme began at 5.30 pm with a prayer dance, followed by a shraddhanjali of Mr. Wilfy’s photo, after which Fr. Free Medical Camp at Pushpashrama :
The Pushpashrama-Infant Jesus shrine organized a free medical camp for the poor of Yahweh on Sunday 27th, November 2011. There were six doctors and four nurses from St. Joseph's hospital and Mission hospital, Mysore. Second Annual Retreat of the Province
The Second Batch of the Province Retreat was held at Sadbhavana, Bangalore from 21st to 25th November, 2011. Rev. Fr. Jossey Fernandes, OFM Cap guided the friars into spiritual renewal. There were fifteen friars who attended the retreat from different communities of the Province. At the end of the retreat all the participants did experience the spiritual presence of Jesus. The newly set up Library for the exclusive use of the Secular Carmel and their family members was inaugurated on 4th Nov, 2011 at 4 pm. Fr. Pius J. Medical Camp at Mangalore
As many as 127 jail inmates including 12 women prisoners benefited from a free medical camp organized by the Prison Ministry India (PMI), Mangalore Unit in association with AJ Institute of Medical Sciences in the Mangalore Jail Premises on 30th Oct, 2011. The Medical camp was organized following a demand from the jail inmates as a large number of inmates were reportedly suffering from skin related diseases. Click here for more

“THE MUSTARD SEED”
Rev. Dr. Rudolf V. D’Souza has come out with a new book, “The Mustard Seed”. This book containing the Homilies for Year B is a helpful tool to break the Word of God to people. This is the First volume of Homilies, containing reflections, stories and life experiences based on the Scriptural texts of the Catholic Liturgical Calendar. This Volume is a welcome compendium of reflection in the libraries of Seminaries, Religious houses, Institutes of Spirituality and especially Parishes. The book has been published under the umbrella of Dhyanavana Publications, Bangalore, 2012 consists of 350 pages.

The Annual Get-together of OCDS in Mangalore
The Annual meet of the OCDS of the Mangalore Unit was held on 16th October, 2011 (a day after the feast of Our Mother Teresa) in the house of Mrs. Mary Rebello. 28 members were present. The meet began with the recitation of the PRAYER OF THE CHURCH. Mrs. Benedicta D’Souza (Benny Teacher), the president of the Unit welcomed the gathering. OCDS CEREMONIES AT ST. EDMUND’S CHURCH, CANADA
The communities of the Lower Mainland gathered at St. Edmund’s Church on Saturday October 22, 2011 for the occasion of the Investiture and the Promises of several of their members.   It was the first time that the Ceremonies were held jointly by all the communities.    Members, family and friends gathered for Morning Prayer with the parishioners and the Catholic Women’s League whose monthly meeting also coincided.  This was followed by Holy Mass with Fr. Jerald D’Souza, Provincial Delegate for the OCDS as the main celebrant and Fr. Jerome Mascarenhas, Spiritual Assistant for the Group of Our Lady of Mt. MEETINGS AND FESTAL CELEBRATION AT SADBHAVANA
Sadbhavana was filled to the brim, in the last week with a series of meetings and a grand celebration. It began on 11th October, 2011 with a session of the provincial council that was convened for the immediate preparation of the various programmes to be conducted. On the following day, parish priests and Shrine Pastors gathered for input sessions by experts. The morning sessions were animated by Rev (Dr.) Victor George D’Souza, professor of Canon Law at St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary.  He answered many intriguing queries of the participants and clarified their doubts. In the afternoon, Rev. Fr. Joseph Abraham, the parish priest of Uttarahalli (Bangalore) and a renowned preacher besides being a Canonist enumerated the pastoral qualities and approach that are expected of a parish priest. The final session was conducted by Fr. Provincial, who offered a few tips and guidelines for the smooth functioning of our parishes and for building up a cordial and efficient working relationship with the province administration. Vocation Camp at Carmel Hill
The Carmel Hill community, conducted a two-day vocation camp on the 6th of October. The camp was inaugurated by Fr. Elias D’Souza at 10:00am with 43 participants, ranging from classes 8th – 1st PUC (with two boys from classes 6th and 7th too), from 14 parishes all around Mangalore. The brothers, under the leadership of Fr. Deep, organized various activities and competitions – sports, drawing, drama, recreational games, etc.  Click here for more

Two Carmelite Missionaries commit their life to Carmel and to the Church as Deacons
The entire K.G. Province along with the Missionaries of Tanzania celebrates and rejoices in the dual celebration of the Solemn Profession and Diaconate of Bros. Praveen Frank and Reevan Cutinha. These two young men committed themselves perpetually through the evangelical vows on the 30th of September, 2011 at Kihonda, Tanzania. They made their solemn profession in the hands of Rev. Fr. 62ND ANNUAL PARISH FEAST CELEBRATED AT GUARDIAN ANGELS PARISH - CANADA
The annual feast of the Guardian Angels Parish was celebrated on 1st October at 4 pm. Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves (Provincial) was the main celebrant. He delivered a great homily with the message that we all need to be good stewards of the works entrusted with us. He highlighted the renovation works done at the Parish and the charitable activities that cater to 600 people daily through sandwich program from Tuesday to Friday - which was an inspiration to him. He insisted that he would inspire all the Carmelite parishes in Tanzania and India so that the people are helped in their need through such activities conducted in church campuses. Fr. Boniface and Fr. Rudy concelebrated at the festal mass. After the mass there was dinner served at Millennium hall of the parish and all the priests and parishioners contributed towards the evening entertainment through jokes, songs and few other items. Rev. Fr. Provincial Meets the Friars of K.G. Province in Canada
The Canada Regional Meeting of the Carmelites of K.G Province was held at London Ontario at St. Andrew's Parish on the 21st of September, 2011. Rev. Fr. Provincial arrived at 9 am and the Community wished Happy Golden Birthday and congratulated him for being elected as Provincial for the Second Term. Later on friars along with Fr. Provincial proceeded to Bless the newly furnished chapel of the community, followed by the Meeting which lasted for 2 hours. We had our lunch and then proceeded to a short picnic to Niagara Falls. On the 22nd all the friars celebrated mass and Fr. Provincial presided over and gave a message and encouraged the community to be faithful to the renewal of the Carmelite Charism. Then we welcomed Bishop Ronald Fabbro who had a wonderful time with us. After which all partook in the delicious lunch prepared by Fr. Ranjan (Superior and Parish Priest) and Fr. Vijay Martin (Assistant). In the afternoon we had fun in the Church campus. On 23rd Fr. Provincial visited Hamilton and St. Catherine Dioceses to meet the Bishops in view of the future expansion of the Region.

Rev. Dr. Pius D’souza OCD, Superior, St. Joseph’s Monastery, Bikarnakatte Mangalore, released JINNECHI VATT – a book in Konkani on moral values on 22nd Sept, 2011 at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte.. Fr. Valerian Fernandes, Parish Priest of Sastan, has transliterated the book from Roman script to Kannada script. It is a book on Value Education originally written in roman script by John M. News from Empoli : “Andiamo insieme”
The new community at Empoli was formed on the 16th of September. It was a day with mixed feelings. On the one hand the community moaned the loss of Fr. Thomas Baretto one of the stalwarts of our Province. A special requiem mass was celebrated in his honour officiated by Fr. Provincial. On the other hand it was an occasion to show our Carmelite fraternity amidst the presence of Fr. Provincial. Fr. Provincial in his homily recounted the magnanimous personality of Fr. Baretto and his invaluable contributions to the Province. He also guided the new community headed by Fr. Donath Rebeiro for the coming triennium. Three hour long MAGNIFICAT was held at Infant Jesus Shrine on Sunday evening. Fr. Augustine Vallooran from Potta during the Eucharist spoke about the importance of forgiveness in obtaining health of body and mind. Fr. William and Fr. Stephen Pereira concelebrated. Glen and Teresa lead the faithful into praise and worship. Commenting on the Gospel of John Fr. MONTI FEST CELEBRATION IN HADAGALI
The community of Carmel Bhavan celebrated the feast of the Nativity of Mother Mary on September 11, 2011 Sunday. The festal mass was at 11-30am presided over by Rev. Fr. William Miranda, Provincial Councilor for Temporality and Assets. He is also known as “the Shilpi of Hadagali”. In his preaching he highlighted the importance of family life in the present context. The people from the vicinity belonging to different religion flocked together to celebrate the feast. Mangaloreans and Goans living in Calgary celebrated Monthi Fest for the third time at St. Mark’s parish, 5552, Madigan dr. NE, Calgary, AB , Canada on September 10th, 2010 at 6.00 pm. There were also guests from Banff, Edmonton and Lake Louise. Monti fest is also known as birthday of Mother Mary, feast of new first corn and very close to children as they offer flowers to Mary. There are only two birthdays celebrated in the catholic church other than Jesus Christ: One is John the Baptist and other is Virgin Mary. Church celebrates on December 8th conception of Mary and exactly after nine months, September 8th catholic church celebrates birthday of Mother Mary. The Holy Family Church, Gorwa Panchwati, in its long standing history for the first time experienced a unique way of Celebrating and Honoring the Infant Mary on the day of her birth as per the tradition and custom of Mangalore, Mumbai and Goa. NOT SO YOUNG PRIEST MEET - 2011
The ‘not so young’ priests of our province were delighted to make their way to Mount Carmel Church, Talegaon 0n 26th August, 2011 and spend a couple of days together. It began with an inaugural Mass presided over by Fr. Silvestre D’Souza, Provincial Councilor for on-going formation. Soon after, there was an informal session to chalk out the programme and assign duties. Since a stray dog feasted on some of the goodies prepared by the hosts – Frs. THE FUNERAL OF LATE REV. FR. FRANCIS THOMAS BARRETTO
The funeral rites of Fr. Thomas Baretto were held at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore on Friday 19th August, 2011. The mortal remains were received at the entrance of the shrine by the friars and his relatives at 2.30 p.m. There was a short prayer by the Superior, Fr. Pius James D’Souza, after which Fr. Paul Weingartner, OCD, the provincial of Austria, laid a wreath as a sign of respect and reverence. Then followed an hour-long prayer service conducted by the theology brothers consisting of a meditation on the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary and the office of the dead. It concluded with the solemn intonation of ‘Libera Me’ in Latin. At the end of the prayer, there was a slide-show on the life and ministry of Fr. Baretto, which was prepared by Fr. Stephen Pereira. Independence Day Celebration at Carmel Hill, Mangalore
It was indeed a celebration of dual Freedom. Catholics we today commemorate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary who was taken into heaven with body and soul after the completion of her life on earth. This reminds us of our freedom from sin. Secondly it is a celebration of our political freedom obtained after much struggle and toil. These dual celebrations were celebrated at Infant Jesus Shrine with much meaning and festivity. The Eucharist was officiated by Rev. Fr. Charles Serrao OCD Rome and Rev. Fr. Alwyn Aranha OCD, Rome preached the Word of God. Meaningful Penitential Rite enabled the faithful to examine ones life and reflect how one becomes a slave to ones passions and carnal desires in this modern world. We are sorry to inform you that Mr. Mariano Dias, good friend of the Carmelites expired today (14th August) and the funeral will be held at Holy Family Church, Porvorim, Goa, tomorrow (15th August) at 4-30PM. He pursued the Old Goa case for several years and was principally responsible to win it in our favour. The members of Prison Ministry, Mangalore (the national voluntary organization working for the release, renewal and rehabilitation of prisoners as well as women in distress) celebrated their Annual Day on 13th Aug, 2011 at District Sub-Jail, Mangalore. Mount Carmel Feast at KOTESWAR
It was raining cats and dogs! The Government had declared holiday due to heavy rains and flood. Yet devotees gathered in great number at Carmel Ashram, Katekere, Kundapur for the celebration of Mount Carmel Feast on 18th July, 2011.  Fr. Melwyn distributed the candles for the Mudomn before the Mass. The concelebrated Eucharist was officiated by Rev. Fr. John Sequeira, OCD Director of International Spirituality Center, Ryshivana, Ranipura. In his homily he invited the faithful to be a CARA-MEL (beauty of God' creature). Funeral Details Fr. Francis Thomas Baretto

Update on Fr. Baretto
We are happy to inform you that Fr. Edwin Diniz, OCD who is presently in Germany, visited Fr. Thomas Baretto in Austria and called Fr. Provincial today, to give us an update of his health condition. When Fr. Edwin called out to him and spoke in Konkanni, Fr. Baretto responded by opening his eyes slightly.

This is really good news, because after many days we are seeing a positive sign of his slow recovery to consciousness. According to Fr. Edwin, the hospital is of a very good standard, the medical care is excellent and the members of Fr. Baretto's community (Innsbruck) are attending to him.

He is still in the ICU and on life support machines, but the doctors are hopeful that they will be able to disconnect them one by one slowly. The whole process may even take a month.

Fr. Rathan Almeida, is our link person, and had visited him earlier, when his condition was very critical. He calls us frequently and has promised to pass on any other information from time to time.

We thank all of you who have been praying incessantly for Fr. Baretto's recovery. Many of you have called us to enquire about his progress. We appreciate your concern for him and request you to continue praying in the community / family and personally.

SADBHAVANA CELEBRATES THE FEAST OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL
The Solemn feast of our Patroness ‘Our Lady of Mount Carmel’ was celebrated at ‘Sadbhavana’, Bangalore, the Carmelite Provincial House. Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves was the main celebrant of the Eucharistic Celebration. In his sermon he invited everyone to have God experience by climbing the “Mount of Perfection’. He also said that Mother Mary who was the first one to climb this Mountain and the first believer, is known as our model and inspiration. The holy and spiritual celebration was attended by good number of faithful of the vicinity. The choir and liturgy led by Fr. Vinod Lobo and Fr. Joachim Rodrigues respectively added cream to the prayerful celebration of the feast. Click here for more

Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Pushpashrama, Mysore. We the Carmelites of Pushpashrama celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on Sunday, 17th of July 2011. The Eucharistic celebration was at 8 am in English with Dhyanavana community joining us. The church was full with sisters, youth, children and laity. Our rector Fr. Joe Tauro was the main celebrant and the preacher. Fr. Jeevan Tauro gave a small reflection on 'Carmel' in Kannada. The OCDs members came in offertory procession. Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, Mangalore. We, the Carmelites of Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel on Sunday, July 17th along with the faithful. Despite the rain, we were blessed to share the joy of the feast with a large number of devotees. We had three masses in the morning for the faithful, the festal mass at 5.30 in the evening. Dear Fathers, Sisters and Brothers,
After the shocking news of Fr. Baretto's demise, many of you have been inquiring about the latest developments.

We wish to keep you updated regarding the arrangements we are making for the funeral of Fr. Thomas Baretto. Since he died just before the week-end, the process could begin only yesterday (Monday), when the postmortem was conducted. With all the legal procedures that need to be followed we expect the paper work to be completed in another four or five days. The body may be flown to India only after the 15th of August.

We will keep you informed with further details, once everything gets confirmed, probably by this week-end.

As you are aware Fr. Provincial is in Tanzania for the mission congress and is not able to come down before the 18th of August. He has delegated Fr. Dominic Vas, (first provincial councillor) to over-see and co-ordinate all the arrangements for the funeral Mass, which will be held in Mangalore monastery. We are also expecting the provincial of Austria and another priest, to come down with Fr. Rathan along with the body of Fr. Baretto.

Thanks for your prayers for the repose of his soul. Please don't forget to remember the bereaved family, which is shocked due to his premature departure.

It was an evening of celebration and jubilation at Carmel Hill on 9th July, 2010. Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, the Provincial celebrated his Golden Jubilee of life and Fr. Pius James and Fr. Canute D' Souza celebrated the Silver Jubilee of their Profession. The community of Carmel Hill wished them all the best and the blessings of the Almighty in the days to come. 60th Religious Profession day of Fr. Paul D'Souza OCD:
The Carmelite friars of Pushpashrama, Mysore celebrated the 60th Religious Profession day of Fr. Paul Dsouza on July 2nd,2011. Fr. Paul was born 0n 28th of September 1933, at Raia, in Goa to  a God fearing parents- John Dsouza and Thelma Dsouza, a family of 6 children,3 boys and 3 girls, Fr. Paul being the second in the family. He joined the Carmelites of Belgian Province of the Carmelite order in 1950. He was professed on July 2nd 1951 with the religious name of Camillus of St. Teresa; which name he bore till 1979. He studied philosophy in Goa between 1951 to 1954; Theology in Rome between 1955 to 1960. He received the Sacred Order of Ordination on 5th April 1959 in Rome. He served throughout his life as professor in Philosophy and spiritual director at Alwaye monastery, Alleppye in Kerala and Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore philosophy college in Karnataka. He has helped good number of eligious and laity by guiding them in their doctoral thesis, counselling the youth, sisters, priests through his powerful talks, and retreats. Second Annual Meeting of the OCDS - Western Canada
The 2nd Annual Meeting of Western Canada OCDS was held at the Monastery of St. Joseph, Armstrong BC on July 1, 2011, the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Rev. Fr. Jerald D’Souza, the Provincial Delegate met with the Secretariat Officers and representatives of the communities of Vernon, Calgary, North Vancouver, Vancouver and Richmond who all made the five to eight hour journey to Armstrong by car. St. Teresa of Jesus of the Andes Community, Vernon hosted and graciously made all the arrangements for board and lodging. Everyone was made to feel welcome and comfortable.

Golden Birthday and Silver Jubilee of the Religious profession
The superiors and formators of the province, gathered for their meeting at Sadbhavana on 6th July, 2011 had an atmosphere of jubilation. There was a dual celebration of Fr. Provincial’s Golden birthday and the Silver jubilee of the Religious Profession of Frs. Pius James and Canute D’ Souza. Frs. Cyril Menezes (Belur), Fr. Melwyn Roasrio (Gujarat), our fathers from Dhyanavana and Dhyanasadhana were those who specially came to be part of this celebration. All the fathers from the Bangalore region were present. Stained Glass Windows of Our Guardian Angels Parish (Vancouver - Canada) was inaugurated on 3rd July, 2011
Archbishop Michael Miller with an appropriate message inaugurated the newly installed 25 stained glasses at Guardian Angels Church - Vancouver on 3rd July 2011. He in his homily mentioned that the stained glasses reflect the spirit of the church adoring the One and Triune God through the Saints and Angels along with the people of God. He congratulated the Parish Priest Fr. Rudolf and the parishioners in their effort at beautifying the Temple of God for worship and making the Church even more spiritually vibrant in the neighborhood of downtown Vancouver. This is the only Church next to the Cathedral that caters to the spiritual needs of tourists who land from cruise ships from Europe and North America. The last 5 photos in this album indicate the church before renovation and before installing the stained glasses in 2009. click here for the photographs

Silver Jubilee - Fr. Canute D' Souza OCD
The Sadbhavana Community has a reason to rejoice and celebrate. Today the Catholic Church celebrates the Solemnity of St. Thomas, the Apostle of India. At the same time we the Carmelites of Karnataka Goa Province are Celebrating the Silver Jubilee of the Religious Profession of Rev. Fr. Lancy Canute D’ Souza, the Procurator of our Province. SIX POSTULANTS ON THE WAY TO CARMEL
The Community at Margao gathered on June 11, 2011 along with the Provincial and Fr. Silvestre D’Souza (Councillor in-charge of formation) during the Mid-day prayer in the Chapel for the inaugural ceremony of the 6 month Postulancy Course. A big lamp was symbolically lighted by representatives of those present. After the Scripture reading from the letter to the Romans 12:1-2, Fr. Provincial addressed the 6 postulants by inviting them to let God and the formative community transform them, so that they are fully prepared to step into the Novitiate and make their commitment in Carmel. FR. FELIX SILVA WAS REMEMBERED
On June 11, 2011 there was a special mass in the evening to mark the first death anniversary of Fr. Felix Silva. OCD. While Fr. Provincial presided over the Eucharist, Fr. Alvito Fernandes broke the word of God, with references from the life of our late Fr. Felix. All the community members from Xellim and Londa, and Fr. Diogo Proenca from Mapusa community came specially to participate in this commemoration. A good number of Fr. Felix’s family members and other friends from around the monastery attended. There were special prayers conducted in the cemetery by Fr. Anthony D’Souza, the superior of the monastery. Refreshments were served after the whole function ended.    Click here for more

FR. BONA'S FIRST ADVENTURE IN CANADA
Fr. Bona, after arriving in Canada on the 2nd May 2011, immediately began his work as a Canadian Missionary. He accepted an adventurous journey to one of the remotest missions of the Archdiocese of Vancouver, a journey in a 20 seater small aeroplane, a flight lasting an hour to Anaheim Lake and Bella Coola, a First Nation Canada Mission to offer masses and preach. His success can be clearly noted in the photos enclosed. This first experience has made him stronger and smarter to handle any situation in his official task as the Chaplain of St. Paul's Hospital, the largest one in Vancouver City. click here for more

FR. MARIO FERNANDES' WARM SENDOFF PROGRAM AT GUARDIAN ANGELS PARISH
Rev. Fr. Mario Fernandes was given a warm sendoff by the Parishioner's of Guardian Angels Parish (Vancouver Canada) on the 18th of June 2011 after the solemn Eucharistic celebration at the Millennium Hall of the Parish. Fr. Rudolf extended the invitation to all the parishioners who participated in the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Fr. Mario and concelebrated by Fr. Rudy and Fr. Bona - The Solemnity of the Holy Trinity. The sendoff program was organized well and more than 150 people participated wishing him every success in his ministry as Assistant Pastor and chaplain at the School at St. Patrick's Parish in the Archdiocese. Fr. Mario spent 5 years at the Residence of Guardian Angels Rectory and offered his valuable ministry as Chaplain at St. Paul's Hospital (Vancouver), the largest hospital in Downtown. Nineteen Youngsters are on the way to Carmel
We are grateful to God for giving us the gift of 19 new aspirants who began the initiation course at the Carmelite Seminary, Mapusa – Goa on Saturday 11th June 2011. Two of them have completed their PUC studies. Fr. Provincial officially inaugurated the year-long formation programme with a solemn Mass on the feast of St. Barnabas, apostle. He exhorted them to learn from the example of the saint who accompanied St. Paul on his missionary journeys, after he was formed well in the school of the Apostles. Fr. Ajith Rodrigues, the new director of the course, animated the liturgy. A special feature was the handing over of lamps which were lighted from the flame of the Paschal Candle, to all the aspirants.   Click here for more

Magnificat - 4 in Infant Jesus Shrine, Carmel Hill, Mangalore.
When the Apostles together with Blessed Mary were in prayer the Holy Spirit descended upon them and they were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. A similar kind of awakening of the Spirit was experienced at Magnificat held at Infant Jesus Shrine on 12th June, 2011 on the Feast of Pentecost. Rev. Fr. PENTECOST VIGIL AT CARMEL HILL, MANGALORE
Wish you a happy feast of Pentecost!
Pentecost Vigil was observed at Infant Jesus Shrine on the eve of Pentecost (11 June, 2011). People spent the whole night in prayer, praise and worship and Adoration. Fr. Franklin, Fr. Andrew and Br. T. K. George led the congregation to a wonderful divine experience and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. On the 3rd of June, fathers and brothers of our province in Rome celebrated the 25 years of religious life of Fr. Stanislaus Rodrigues. The day of profession is on the 3rd of July and the celebration was in anticipation. The Holy mass was celebrated in Teresianum chapel. Fr. 8 Carmelite Deacons
It was a day of joy and jubilation to the entire Carmelite Order especially. to Karnataka-Goa Province as Eight of our Theology Brothers were ordained Deacons on 9th June, 2011. Most Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore raised them to the Clerical status and asked them to be humble servants after the example of their master, Jesus Christ. When two hour long ceremony ended felicitation was held during which Fr. Provincial congratulated the new Deacons and wished them well in their pastoral ministry. Br. Prakash compeered the program. Nuncio Ordains Two Men as Priests
The Church in general and Carmlite Order in particular rejoiced at the Ordination of two more New Priests in the person of Fr. Ivan Leo Sanctis and Fr. Rajesh Madtha. This year the Carmelite Order has been blessed with & energetic and youthful new Priests. Fr. Ivan Sanctis was ordained priest by His Excellency Archbishop Ambrose Madtha, the Apostolic Nuncio to Ivory Coast, West Africa on 28^th May, 2011 at Gantalkatte.   Click here for more

Golden Jubilee!
On 23rd of March 2011, the golden jubilee of religious profession of Fr. Isidor D’silva was commemorated in style at the Oratory of Teresianum, Rome. The friars belonging to Karnataka-Goa province thanked and praised the Lord for His manifold blessings to the jubilarian through the Eucharistic con-celebration. The choir and liturgy was well organized by our theology students that enhanced the solemnity of the event.

Pushpashrama OCDS Annual Day
The Annual Day of the OCDS (Secular Carmel) Pushpashrama was celebrated on 6th March 2011. The OCDS members along with the OCD fathers and brothers sang the solemn vespers in Kannada at 7.00pm followed by a cultural evening for which the shrine pastror Fr.Wilfred Frank was the President and the rector Fr.Gregory was the chief guest. Fr. Paul gave away the prizes to the winners of various competitions. Fr.Wilfy their spiritual director appreciated the well organized programme by the Secular Carmelites and Fr.Joseph Pinto prayed the grace over the meals sponsored by the OCDS members.

Jubilee Celebrations at the Vicariate
March 4, 2011 was the day of celebration and rejoicing at the Tanzania Vicariate as the mission celebrated the Silver jubilee of Priestly ordination of Fr. Raymond and the Diamond jubilee of life of Fr. Peter. There was a Eucharistic Celebration followed by a felicitation programme in honour of the Jubilarians. We are sad to let you know that Rev. Sr. Cecilia of Jesus OCD, aged 71 (from Raipur Carmel, Chhattisgarh) passed away on 09-03-2011 evening at 06-10pm due to massive heart attack. She was the cousin of Archbishop of Bhopal Rt. Rev. Leo Cornelius. She has one sister who is also a Carmelite nun in Vijayawada Carmel. May the Lord who called her to the garden of Carmel grant her eternal rest in His Heavenly abode. Kindly do remember the bereaved community of Raipur Carmel in your prayers.

Blessing of New BHOJANALAYA + JNANADALAYA on Mar - 3, 2010 @ 8 pm
“Come Holy Spirit and fill this house. May body, mind and soul be enkindled in this re-structured house,” invoked Fr. Provincial, Fr. Joe Tauro and Fr. Cyril Menezes blessing the Refectory, Library and the Multimedia wing respectively. It was a Carmelite Fraternal gathering for the first blessing of the new block of St. Joseph’s Monastery. NEW PARISH OF THE KARNATAKA GOA PROVINCE IN LONDON ONTARIO – CANADA
Fr. Rudolf V. D’Souza, visited the new parish of the Karnataka Goa Province at London Ontario (Canada) on 23rd February. Fr. Ranjan D’Sa the Parish Priest of St. Andrew’s Church, has been incharge since November 2010. The parish has approximately 800 families, and this number got dwindled in the last few years due to scarcity of priests and their spiritual ministry among them. Fr. Ranjan D’Sa has succeeded in bringing new life to the Parish, renovating it with the help of the parishioners themselves. On 24th February Fr. Rudolf and Fr. Ranjan met Rt. Rev. Bishop Ronald Fabro the Bishop of London Ontario for almost an hour and explained the expectations of the Carmelites in the Diocese. The Bishop was very cordial in accepting proposals and added that he would like the members of our Province to cater to the needs of the Seminarians at the Inter-Diocesan Seminary. The annual meeting of the young priests, 1-5 years ordained priests was organized at Talegaon, Mount Carmel Church, Pune from February 01-05. There were 21 priests who attended the meeting and were the cause of the success of the meet. The meet was inaugurated on 1st evening during the Eucharistic Celebration with the lighting of the lamp. On 2nd all the young priests gathered together to share their rich experiences. There was also an input session on 3rd, on the theme “Healing and Deliverance” by Mr. Derrick, Thomas and Fr. TINY STEP TOWARDS A MIGHTY DEVOTION
The feast of the Infant Jesus was solemnized at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Talegaon Pune on the 6th February. The tridium was presided and preached by the young priests of our province as the young priests’ meet coincided with the occasion. Big thanks to the young priests who obliged to preside and break the word of God. Parishioners were happy and surprised to see so many priests concelebrating at the mass. CARMELITES HAVE A NEW PARISH IN KOTESHWAR
The long awaited dream of establishing a Parish in Koteshwar came true on Sunday, 30 January 2011.  The Episcopal Vicar, Very Rev. Dr. Baptist Menezes read the decree from the Bishop of Mangalore and declared St. Anthony’s Chapel into a Parish. St. Anthony’s Parish in Koteshwar has altogether 72 families most of who belong to Pius Nagar Parish. For the past ten years, the Carmelite Fathers used to offer daily mass at this chapel. Since the parish is entrusted to the care of the Carmelites of the Karnataka Goa Province, their Provincial, Rev. Dr. Archibald Gonsalves was also present.  Click here for more

Infant Jesus Feast at  Asha Deepa, Madanthyar :
The Carmelite Community at Asha Deepa, Madanthyar celebrated the feast of Infant Jesus with much solemnity and devotion. Rev. Dr. Joseph Martis, Rector of St. Joseph’s Inter diocesan Seminary, Jeppu presided over the festal Eucharistic banquet along with other 20 priests. Fr. Rector in his homily counseled how to imitate the childlike qualities of Infant King. After the Eucharist special prayers were offered for the sick and the ailing. Fr. Infant Jesus feast 2011 at Pushpashrama, Mysore :
The Feast of Infant Jesus was celebrated on 9th january,2011 in a grand scale in pushpashrama. Around 10,000 devotees visited the shrine during the novenas and feast day. Fr. C. Francis, vicar general of Bangalore Diocese was the main celebrant. At 11.30 mass was held for the sick followed by annasantharpane and evening 5pm solemn mass with band, flower girls, choir, fireworks, car procession, candle light procession and release of 2 cassettes composed by Fr. Wilfred Frank, ocd - Jesus the life and Jesus the way , were the high lights of the feast. Jesus the inspirer of youth was the theme of the day. Click here for more

A two hour long prayer, praise and worship led by Fr. Augustine Valluran and team from Divine Retreat Center, Potta was held at the Shrine on 23rd Jan, 2011. Its really heartening to see people especially the YOUTH flocking in good number to the spiritual OASIS to quench their thirst for Jesus. Infant Jesus Celebrated at Carmel Ashram, Koteshwar - Kundapur
The annual feast of Infant Jesus was celebrated at Koteshvar, Kundapur on 21st Jan, 2011 with great devotion and zeal. Rev. Fr. Baptist Menezes, Episcopal Vicar, Udupi District, presided over the solemn festal Eucharistic Celebration at 5 pm along with 30 priests. Fr. Menezes in his homily on the theme: And they were filled with zeal, recalled the different instances where the youngsters were strengthened by Jesus and gave witness to faith. He also said that Jesus proclaimed the Kingdom of God with zeal and helped his apostles to be zealous to continue his mission. FEAST OF INFANT JESUS, MANGALORE

The annual feast of the Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore was celebrated on Friday January 14 at Carmel Hill with pomp and gaiety. Archbishop of Delhi Most Rev. Vincent Concessao presided over the solemn festal Eucharistic celebration along with more than 50 priests. The Holy Eucharist was centred on the theme "AND THEY WERE FILLED WITH ZEAL". This year being dedicated to the youth, there was special prayer offered for the youth. Carmel Day 2010 
The Carmelite Friars at the Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore organized their, ‘23^rd Carmel Day’ at the Shrine Premises. Mr. Dolphy Prashanth D'Souza, an energetic and budding leader was the chief guest and Mr. Walter Nandalike, Chief of Daijiworld web portal was the guest of honour. Mr. D'Souza recalled the contribution of the Carmelites Missionaries in the diocese of Mangalore. Christmas at Mangalroe Dist. Sub-Jail
Prison Ministry India, (the national voluntary organisation working for the release, renewal and rehabilitation of prisoners as well as women in distress) Mangalore Unit - celebrated the Christmas with the inmates of District Sub-Jail, Mangalore on 18th December 2010. Rev. Fr. Walter D’Souza OCD, the Co-ordinator of PMI, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Stanly, member of the Unit presented a bird’s eye view of the rehabilitation programs conducted for the inmates of the Prison by the PMI Mangalore.  Most Rev. Triple Celebration at Kushalnagar
December 14, 2010 was a special day marked by triple celebration at our Novitiate House, Tapovana, Kushalnagar. First of all on this auspicious day Carmelites all over the world celebrate the Solemnity of St. John of the Cross, a Reformer, a Mystic and a Doctor of the Church. What a privilege to solemnize this occasion with two other celebrations viz., the Perpetual Profession of Br. Anil Veigas and also the First Profession of eight of our Novices! The Festal Holy Qurbana was officiated by Very Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsavles, the Provincial Superior, concelebrated by 40 other priests both Carmelite and the Diocesan. Click here for more

YOUNG CARMELITE PRIESTS' MEET
For the first time ever and of its kind, the meeting of the young priests, 5-10 years ordained priests was organized at "Stella Maris" Monastery, Honnavar from 20-21 November, 2010. Altogether eighteen made it to the meeting. Fr. Provincial inaugurated the meet by lighting the lamp. In his inaugural address he stressed the significance of the meet. We also had an imput session by Fr. Richard Rodrigues, a priest from Karwar Diocese, on "Child Sexual Abuse". Later we had interaction with Fr. Provincial during which we discussed few of the important issues that concern the young priests in particular and the Province in general. Click here for more

Regional Meeting of the South Asian Carmelite Units (India-Sri Lanka) Inaugurated Bangalore
The much awaited Regional meeting of the Discalced Carmelite Provincials and Provincial Councils with Fr. General and Definitor General was inaugurated on 17th Nov. with lighting of the lamp and the solemn inaugural address by Very Rev. Fr. General. This historical meeting is being held at Sadbhavana, the Carmelite Provincial House of the Karnataka Goa province at Bangalore and is attended by 6 Provincials and a Commissar along with their councils, altogether a number of 33 including Fr. OASIS: YOUTH RETREAT AT CARMEL HILL
“This is the place where you can quench your thirst for Jesus. Find an OASIS here at Infant Jesus Shrine" said Bro. Ivan, to the youngsters who were part of OASIS - 2010 a Youth Retreat. This year being dedicated to youth a special two day retreat was organized at Infant Jesus Shrine from November 5-6. Rt. Rev. Dr. Alyosius Paul D'Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore celebrated the inaugural Holy Eucharist. Bro. Ivan through his enlightening sharing invited the youth for a spiritual renewal. A band from Hyderbad led the participants through praise and worship. This is one more attempt by the Infant Jesus Shrine to bring the youth closer to Jesus and experience His love in abundance. "Come and See" Vocation Camp at Carmel Hill
Three days vocation camp was organized from November 5 at Carmel Hill, Mangalore. Fr. George Santhumayor, the Superior inaugurated the camp by lighting the Lamp. The camp was organized at the Monastery for 8-10th Std students. Boys responded well to the invitation of Fr. Deep, the Vocation Promoter. There were 64 students from the four corners of the Diocese of Mangalore. Fr. Rev. Fr. Archibald R. Gonsalves, Provincial, visited the Canada Region from 12th to 24th October 2010. His visit was cherished by all. On 13th October he met the Archbishop Michael. On the 15th he visited St. Edmund's Parish and on the 16th he celebrated mass at Guardian Angels Parish and; in the afternoon he flew to Calgary and met the members and Bishop of Calgary on the 18th. On the 20th we had a community mass at Guardian Angels Parish in remembrance of Mr. Quintiano Fernandes, Dad of Fr. Mario and in the afternoon we had the Regional meeting. Fr. Provincial participated in all the activities of the parish life including a short visit to our Sandwich program. He spent the remaining few days visiting a few benefactors. On 24th he wished Fr. Mario HAPPY BIRTHDAY; and rushed to celebrate Solemn mass at St. Edmunds parish and attended the farewell party of Fr. Ranjan D'sa. PERPETUAL COMMITMENT TO THE LORD
Sr. Maria Benedicta of the Cross OCD made her Perpetual Commitment on Tuesday October 26, 2010 at the Cloistered Carmel Chapel, Mangalore. His Grace Most Rev. Bernard Moras, the Archbishop of Bangalore presided over the Holy Eucharist concelebrated by a good many of Priests both Carmelite and diocesan. Fr Dominic Vas preached a homily fitting to the occasion. He said that St Teresa of Avila lived her earthly-life for the sake of heavenly Father overcoming trials and tribulations till her last breath. She is the role model for all religious nuns and laity. 15 August was a red letter day for the Catholics in Talegaon. It was the day of inauguration and dedication of the newly built church under the patronage of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The inauguration mass began at 5 p.m. as scheduled. Rt. Rev. Thomas Dabre presided over the inaugural mass. Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves the Provincial Superior of the Carmelites unlocked the church and cut the ribbon.

Renovated Guardian Angles Church Inaugurated
In the 61 years of history of Guardian Angels Church - Vancouver - Canada, this year the Church received a face lift with the renovation works done in the Sanctuary with shifting of the Tabernacle to the Centre and painting of a huge mural with the two colourful three dimensional flying Guardian Angels towards the Crucifix depicted inside the Cosmos. The entire work was executed within a month preceeded by 8 months of planning. Moreover the entire Church was re-carpeted. The garden of the Church campus is beautified with new plants and hedges. Archbishop Michael Miller blessed the new Tabernacle and the new confessional during the 61st Anniversary of the Church on 2nd October. It was a joyful event to all the parishioners. Fr. Golden Birthday Celebrations
The 50th Birthday Bash of Fr. Rudolf was celebrated at Guardian Angels Millennium Hall on 24th evening after 4 pm mass. The presence of His Grace Archbishop Michael Miller; Monsignor Jensen; Fr. John Pinto from Calgary and a few priests and religious from the Archdiocese enhanced the joy of every one present. The celebrated Band 98 Psalm by the youth of the Archdiocese, who will be performing in Madrid this summer in August added colour and charm. The presence of 150 invited guests made this celebration a memorable one. The highlight of the program was dance by the birthday boy. In his address Archbishop Michael Miller congratulated and thanked the Karnataka Goa Province for the valuable presence of the Carmelites headed by Fr. Rudolf V. D'Souza. Fr. Mario Fernandes commenced the celebration with a few words of appreciation of Fr. Rudolf and blessed the food. The catering was organized by the celebrated Vancouver Delicacies.

Fr. Rudolf V. D'Souza, visited recently the Calgary Diocese and met Bishop Henry and the two friars Fr. John Alex Pinto and Fr. Gabriel Dias working at Thomas More parish. MOUNT CARMEL FEAST AT GUARDIAN ANGELS PARISH - VANCOUVER
The Solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was celebrated at Guardian Angels Parish with all pomp and glory on the 16th at 7 pm. People from all over Vancouver participated in the celebration. Fr. Mario Fernandes commenced the celebration with the solemn vespers with the people. The concelebrants for the Holy Eucharist were Fr. Jerald D'Souza, Fr. Ranjan D'sa and Fr. Jerome Mascarehnas. We were privileged to have Rev. Fr. John Eason from the Cathedral. Fr. Rudolf V. D'Souza solemnised the occasion with his homily and blessing of the Scapulars. We also appreciated the presence of the Secualr Carmelites of our Order and Secualr Carmelites of the Order of OCARM. The Eucharistic ministers distributed the Scapulars. After the mass all the faithful were invited for a light refreshment with sandwiches and soft drinks in the Millennium Hall. Rt Rev. The solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel popularly known as the Feast of the Brown Scapular was celebrated on 18th July, 2010 at Infant Jesus Shine, Mangalore. V. Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, Rector of St. Joseph’s Seminary, presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebration. 35 priests concelebrated the Solemn Eucharistic celebration. Rev. Fr. The entire Sadbhavana campus was rocking on the occasion of the feast of two great stalwarts of the Church viz., Saints Peter and Paul as we had the unique privilege of celebrating 60 years of life to the unsung hero of our Province very Rev. Fr. Jossey Rodrigues. It was a family celebration of its kind, as all the members contributed in their own way in solemnizing the event. No doubt the day will go down into the annals of our province as a memorable day. All through the day Fr. Jossey was kept on his toes as many of his friends and beneficiaries made it a point to pay a visit and wish him. Among them ten are from Mangalore, seven from Bangalore, two from Baroda, one each from Mumbai and Honnavar. Kudos to the vocation promoters of the respective regions. MEETING IN GOD EXPERIENCE, Rudolf V. D'Souza OCD; Published by Dhyanavana Publications - Bangalore 2010, pp. 190; is a must read book during these years of preparation for the Birth Centenary of St. Teresa of Avila - 2015. This book deals with the comparative religious experience between the writings on prayer by St. Teresa of Avila and the Bhagavad Gita religious experience. The book is a re-print from the Gujarat Sahitya Prakash - Anand (Gujarat) by Jesuits. The book had a great success and has already gone into two prints. The book makes a pleasant reading and written in very scholarly and simple language. This volume is useful for all those who intend to get a comparative religious experience of two world religions and also recommended to be used in formation houses and seminaries of Theological formation.

NEW CD ON LENTEN PREACHING FROM CANADA

Fr. Rudolf V. D'Souza has come out with a one more CD which is professionally produced during his Lenten preaching at Guardian Angels  - downtown Vancouver and Holy Trinity Parish in North Vancouver. The Duration of the CD is 3 hours. The DVD version is also available. At present the volume is on sale in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. Kudos to Fr. Rudy!

Day after the solemn conclusion of the Year for the Priests, Deacon Jeevan Prakash D'Almeida received the Order of Priesthood at the hands of His Lordship Most Rev. Thomas Anthony, Bishop of Mysore on 12th June, 2010 at St. Therese's Church, Mysore South. Dn Jeevan opted to go to Tanzania for mission experience after finishing his philosophical studies at Mysore. There he completed four years of Theology and now he will be going back to the Mission land to continue the mission of the Lord. Click here for more

The Province bids sorrowful adieu to Rev. Fr. Felix Silva who entered into his heavenly abode for the eternal rest on the eve of the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, on the 10th of June 2010. Requiem Mass was celebrated on the 14th June officiated by Very Rev. Fr. Archibald Gonsalves, OCD, Provincial Superior and about 70 Priests both religious and diocesan concelebrated at the Eucharist which speaks volumes for the popularity Fr. The Funeral service will take place on the June 14, 2010 with the Holy Eucharist at 4.00 p.m. at our Carmelite Monastery, Margao. May the good Lord who called Fr. A Spiritual Expedition of Fr. Rudolf D'Souza in Canada : The mission Bella Coola and Anahim Lake are 500 kms from Vancouver. This area can be reached by Car or by air. By air one can reach the region in an hour in a very small plane. The areoplane that can carry only 20 people passes through peaks of snow filled mountains. One gets an experience of travelling through the Alps in Europe. The mission consists of two small churches. The attendance is megre. In Bella Coola I celebrated mass only for 6 people and in Anahim Lake parish there were only 16 poeple, mostly the native Indians or they are also called THE FIRST NATION PEOPLE. The environment is fabulous with lakes, peaks of mountains with snow, wild animals, meadows and thick forests. Mr. George Vancouver visited this area in 1763 from North Ameria. Dhyanashrama Retreat Centre bears a new look : Our well known and most sort after Retreat Centre, Dhyanashrama at Rajjodi, Vasai bears a new look. Under the able leadership of Fr. Vijay Martin the construction of the first floor and the Chapel was undertaken. On 23rd May 2010, Rev. Fr. Installation of Rev. Fr. Rudolf V. D'Souza as the Parish Priest : The Installation of Fr. Rudolf Valerian D'Souza by Most Rev. Archbishop Michael J. Miller CSB, took place on 2nd May 2010 during 9.30 am solemn Mass in Guardian Angels Parish - Vancouver (Canada). Fr. Mario Fernandes assisted the ceremony and the Church was packed. The parish was vacant for nearly 4 years without a parish priest. Now the parishioners are happy to have Fr. Rudy as their pastor. Archbishop Michael J. Miller thanked Rev. Fr. CARMEL COMPLEX INAUGURATED : The long standing dream has been materialized as the new Carmel Complex at Gedalahalli with 38 shops is ready for various kinds of commercial activities. On 29th April Fr. Joseph D'Souza the B'day boy inaugurated the Complex and Fr. Provincial blessed it. Few of the neighbouring religious too were present. During a short function few of the important and responsible persons were felicitated. Fr. Carmelite Friars working in Canada share the Fellowship : The Carmelite Priests working in Vancouver and Calgary Dioceses in Canada met on March 15 at Vancouver to celebrated requem mass for the departed souls of Mrs. Mary Pinto (Mom of Fr. John Alex Pinto) and Mr. John Baptist D'Souza, (papa of Fr. Rudolf Valerian D'Souza). This was followed by a meeting to discuss the modalities and to give final touches to the proposed Charitable Society of the Carmelites in Canada. Infant Jesus Grotto at Koteshwar Vandalized
We are saddened by the incident of damage to the grotto and the Infant Jesus statue at Koteshwar, Kundapur. On Saturday night some miscreants have pelted stones to the grotto of Infant Jesus breaking the glasses and severely damaging the Statue . The incident came to light this morning. It is to be recalled during the last year in September both the Infant Jesus grotto and Our Lady's grotto were targeted by the miscreants. Annual Feast of Infant Jesus at Koteshwar
The 12th Annual Feast of Infant Jesus feast was celebrated with great devotion at Carmel Ashram, Koteshwar, Kundapur on 21st Jan, 2010 at 5 pm. Dhyanashrama, Rajodi Developments
The Rajodi Retreat centre has been catering to hundreds of faithful from the dioceses of Bombay and Vasai. Due to some litigation with the Architect and Contractor, the construction work was halted for four years. Now finally the work is going on full swing with a new contractor and Architect. Fr. Provincial was in Kuwait in the last week of December to conclude the missionary presence of Carmelites of the Karnataka Goa Province. The Prison Ministry India, Mangalore Unit (PMI) which renders selfless service to the prisoners had organized a Christmas Program at the District Sub-Jail, Mangalore on 21 Dec, 2009. Rt. Rev. FIRST PROFESSION
On December 14, as the Carmelites celebrated the solemnity of St. John of the Cross, it was also a very significant day in the life of 12 young budding Carmelites who made their First Profession in Carmel at the Novitaite Chapel, Tapovana, Kushalnagar. During the Concelebrated Holy Eucharist officiated by Fr. A Gospel Music Nite was held at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, Mangalore on 29th Nov. 2009. Fr. George Santhumayor OCD, the Superior of St. Joseph’s Monastery, welcomed the gathering and introduced the Music Band “Youth United for Christ - Mumbai”. Youth United for Christ – Mumbai, participants of the World Youth Day – 2008 at Sydney, Australia, preached a two days retreat to the youth at the Infant Jesus Shrine under the title OASIS on 28th and 29th Nov, 2009. The annual feast of St. Michael’s Church was solemnized on 29th September. In view of a worthy preparation for the Feast, triduum was celebrated. Rev. Msgr. It was indeed another remarkable day in the history of KG Province. 15 lay people volunteered to commit themselves in the Secular Carmelite Order by entering into the Novitiate. Fr. The Last Journey of Fr. Dolfy
The Funeral Cortege was received at Infant Jesus Shrine with prayerful atmosphere at 1.15 p.m. Fr. Provincial led the prayer service, which was continued thereafter. At 3.00 p.m. the Office of the Dead was sung followed by the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration in honour of Fr. Dolfy. Most Rev. Postulancy Inaugurated
On the 7th June the postulants gathered in Margao to be animated by the community, under the leadership of their formator Fr. Lancy Mendonca. The postulants looked very Holy and committed. The bubbling, young and energetic candidates gathered at Avila Jyothi, Mapusa for the inauguration of the academic year. Fr. Annointed for the Mission
On May 17, 2009 Decaon John C. D'Souza was raised to the Order of Priesthood by Most Rev. Bosco Penha, the Auxiliary Bishop of Mumbai. at St. Josehp's Church, Mira Road. Fr. John C. D'Souza is the first Carmelite Priest to be ordained from Mira Road Parish, which is run by the Carmelites. We wish all the very best for the priestly ministry of Fr. John D'Souza. The Body Broken and the Blood Shed
It was indeed a moving experience on the Good Friday at St. Joseph’s Church campus, Mira Road, as the parish youth enacted the way of the Cross in the presence of more than 3000 faithful who witnessed this spiritual event. The youth having totally immersed into the way of the cross also helped the people to enter into the sentiments of the passion of the Lord. Click here for more

Way of the Cross at Carmel Hill
The All Christian Bank Employees, Mangalore conducted the Way  of the Cross at Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore on Good Friday. The Way of the Cross which was prepared by the Carmelite brothers  was not the traditional Way of the Cross but  highlighted the different aspects of passion of Christ. It focused on our family life, social issues, our attitudes and  the  recent attacks on Christians, their prayer houses, Churches and institutions. The incidents used in the Various stations were touching and reflective. The Carmel Choir helped in singing the passion hymns. Click here for more
